Construction kicks off on second stage of Wilsonton Shopping Centre

Demolition work starts today (March 10) on empty buildings to make way for a modern fuel and convenience retail centre featuring 7-Eleven and Starbucks as part of the second stage of a major $45 million redevelopment of Toowoomba’s Wilsonton Shopping Centre.

The demolition of the vacant and dilapidated buildings on the corner of Bridge Street (Warrego Highway) and Richmond Drive is part of the $25 million second stage of the Wilsonton Shopping Centre redevelopment by owners Consolidated Properties Group and CVS Lane Capital Partners.

CPG and CVS Lane bought the centre in 2018 and immediately launched a $20 million upgrade, which included an outdoor dining precinct and improvements to the mall and centre façade.

The second stage adds 2163sq m of floorspace to the centre and includes anchors 7-Eleven service station and a drive-through Starbucks as well as a modern 24-hour car wash facility.

There are also a selection of large format retail showrooms and smaller retail tenancies available for lease.

Consolidated Properties Group CEO & Chairman, Don O’Rorke, said a number of national retail brands had shown interest in the showrooms and retail tenancies, signalling strong demand in the marketplace for an expanded Wilsonton Shopping Centre.

“Stage two of the redevelopment will create over 100  jobs in West Toowoomba and is a significant investment in the area,” he said.

“It adds to the progress we have made since purchasing the centre in 2018, which includes new outlets such as Kaisercraft and Oh Sushi to name just a few.

“These are the most significant changes to the centre since Coles established its store in 2001.

“Western Toowoomba residents can look forward to an enhanced retail offering that meets all their daily shopping needs and more.”

The expanded centre will be ready to welcome customers later this year.

Mr O’Rorke thanked Toowoomba Regional Council for its support of the new works in delivering an expanded centre.

Mr O’Rorke will be joined today (March 10) by Toowoomba North MP Trevor Watts and Mayor Paul Antonio at the sod turning to mark the start of the second stage construction.

Mr Watts said “It is great to see stage two of this project getting underway, I would also like to congratulate Consolidated Properties Group for their work in the community especially their support of Wilsonton State High School.”

Wilsonton Shopping Centre is anchored by Coles and Woolworths and has more than 40 specialty stores. Leasing enquiries should be directed to Rob Clifton at Consolidated Properties Group on 0407 500 325.
